PLC系统的工作任务相对简单，因此需要传输的数据量一般不会太大，所以常见的PLC系统为一层网络结构。过程级网络和操作级网络要么合并在一起，要不过程级网络简化成模件之间的内部连接。PLC不会或很少使用以太网。
